Marine industry boost for Solent area

Plans to create more jobs and boost the Solent's marine industry have been given a serious lift after a million pound fund was launched at the PSP Southampton Boat Show last week. Maritime businesses will be able to bid for cash to improve skills, develop proposals, create new jobs and contribute to the sector’s growth in the region.

Under the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership small to medium sizes companies will have the opportunity to bid for £50,000 and over. Firms with more than 250 members of staff can apply for £100,000 plus.

Predictions for the Solent’s maritime and marine industry to grow have been on the cards for a while. The chairman of the Solent Marine and Maritime Steering Group has said it’s now vital employers ensure their workforce is equipped to capitalise on opportunities.

Running for two years there will be a number of rounds of bidding with the first deadline October 17. Applicants can find more info at
