Morrisons vow to carry on with two new Southampton stores

June 19, 2014 by admin

Despite announcing 2600 job losses supermarket giant Morrisons have vowed to carry on with two new Southampton supermarket developments.

On Tuesday it was announced that jobs would be axed. The company alos confirmed, however, there would be no impact on new stores at East Street and Centenary Quay. Scrapping 2600 management positions will clear room for 3000 new jobs across the business, of which 600 will go to Southampton.

Simon Letts, Southampton City Council leader, said: ‘The majority of the jobs created will hopefully go to local people.

There’s been a demand in the city centre for an additional supermarket for some time, and I know the new store at Centenary Quay will be much welcome because people have to travel a distance for supermarkets there.’
