Southsea’s Plamerston Road to be opened for one way traffic

August 20, 2014 by admin

A downturn in trade has seen the approval of Palmerstone Road, Southsea (Portsmouth) to be opened to one way traffic from the seafront. Approval by Portsmouth City Council has been met with praise and criticism. Pubs in the area suggest the move will deter pedestrians from stopping there.

The temporary move will last for 12 months after which residents and business owners will be consulted about a long term solution. Changes to road signs, putting in parking bays and altering the pedestrian zone will cost £20,000. Letters will soon be going out informing all businesses in the area about the changes.

Linda Symes, Tory ward councillor was critical of the decision and things people should have been consulted properly in the first place.
