SSE profits large but still down

SSE published details of annual profits today of £246 million – even though this is actually a 32.2% decrease. The energy giant is unlikely to recover after it announced a price freeze on its electricity tariffs until January 2016. This promise was made a day before Ofgem, the industry regulator, announced it would be conducting a full scale probe into the energy sector.

Plans for Biomass Power Station Unveiled

UK-based Helius Energy unveiled the design of a new biomass power station to mixed reviews by the nearby residents of Southampton. The 450 construction jobs and 40 permanent ones provided by the plant were welcomed, but the design received unflattering comments. Many residents complained of the boxy industrial look, while some questioned the pollution effects of a wood-fueled plant.
